A Florida mortgage broker has been arrested and charged in a $1 million mortgage fraud case, according to media reports.

Melissa Sant, 31, a mortgage broker in Kissimmee, Fla., has been arrested and charged with, among other things, fraud and grand theft, the Orlando Sentinel reported Friday.

Santfaces one count each of organized fraud of $50,000 or more and grand theft of $100,000 or more for activities associated with her work at Xtreme Mortgage Associates of Kissimmee, the Sentinel said.

Sant made commissions on $20 million in loans over the 18 months her company did business, department spokesman Geo Morales told the Sentinel.

Sant allegedly falsified federal tax forms, title work and other documents – with and without knowledge of applicants – to get loans, the Sentinel reported. These loans brought her fees and commissions, reports said.

The department told the Sentinel it learned about the alleged misdeeds when clients and one employee reported their suspicions to law enforcement.
